Or at least gave him something else to do. . .
When we started Spectacle in 2004, we cast a suspicious eye to video. It was before the YouTube revolution, before people were sharing video on Facebook. I thought, “one day web developers are going to need to be movie makers, too.” And why not, we're already artists, photographers, writers, and programmers.
So “one day” is today. The average Internet user has long since had the bandwidth needed to view video online, and the self publishing tools required to post video are often free and easy to use.
But just because everyone can do it, doesn't mean most of it is any good. But it does mean that if you run a business, you will benefit from some video on your website, an pretty soon, you'll be expected to have it.
My favorite twitter star, Ford's Scott Monty, posted an article on his blog describing his first hand experience with the effectiveness of video.
We're getting ourselves some video, too. With a little help from your new partners at Atlantis 9, we'll be posting our video next month, and we'll be encouraging you to get some video on your website, too.

I've spoken to a couple of clients who have teen-aged or young adult children. They say they're reluctant to get on Facebook or join the social media revolution because they don't want to impede on their kids' privacy.
Here's the thing: Facebook is not private.

Amy Jantzer saw my recent LinkedIn status where I complained that I couldn’t update my LinkedIn status from Twitter (which I currently have set up to automatically update my Facebook status and the status on my website.)
So she just texted me about ping.fm. Ping.fm is one site where you can go to update your status or your microblog on practically every other network you can think of.

Diving into social media networking can be overwhelming for newcomers. We tell our clients to make a matrix that features five pillars of their business -- five general topics that show what they do. We assign each topic a day of the week so when they go out to participate in their social media networks, they have a message of the day.

Karen C. Battoe of Career Advice Plus has said nice things about our work:
"Being a small business owner and in this economy, what is important to me is getting as much value for my dollars as possible. One of the best decisions I made was engaging Shawn Vincent and his dynamic team at Spectacle LLC. Working with Shawn was an enriching experience. The synergy that was created as we were working on my website was exciting. It truly is a partnership. When I hear the name Shawn Vincent, three phrases come to mind: Sense of urgency, exceptional customer service and “creative genius”. He and his team consistently exceed my expectations in the services they provide and the added value I receive."

I’ve been following Scott Monty on Twitter http://twitter.com/ScottMonty. He’s the head of social media at Ford, and considering the current attention on the “Big 3” it is interesting to see how Scott uses social media to manage the message. He has me convinced, for one, that Ford has a future, even if their American competitors do not.

We’ve just launched the website for the New Winter Park Magazine. Take a look at it, we’re pretty proud. This is what we think a magazine website should be like – an extension of the experience, an easy to access archive, a place to go for supplemental information. |

Twitter is the most talked about Web tool that’s not being used my most the people I know. Slightly flawed and sometimes quirky, it provides, none-the-less, one of the fastest, easiest was to participate in social networking.
If you’re not familiar with Twitter, here’s the rub: you set up an account and then you type in what you’re doing right now in 140 characters or less. Submit your entry and your update is published so all those who subscribe to your Twitter feed can see your update.
Some see it when they log into their Twitter, but others – and here’s the real power of Twitter – are notified of Twitter updates on their cell phones, through and RSS feed or on Facebook.

We’ve reached the point in our business where old clients are coming back to us to update their image and take advantage of the new Web tools and strategies we have to offer. American Audio Visual is one of the first websites Spectacle built back in 2004. And just as Spectacle has grown and changed, so has American Audio Visual. Their old website was so out of date, they stopped promoting it. The new site shows off their services, and gives their company a fresh exciting look, and represents them well.

The American Stay Dry website is the first project where we employed our new Content Management System. Now our client has the ability to easily update any of the content on their website without having to contact us. Because they have a pay-per-click advertising campaign, the ability to make quick changes allows them to continually update the content on their website to reflect their internet ads. |

Our new website is a representation of everything we’ve learned about using the Internet to market small businesses. This is Creative Internet Marketing in action.
Creative Internet Marketing is about using ALL the web tools available, not just your website, to communicate with your fans. Your business has fans, right? Ours does.
But we don’t want to TELL our fans what we do; we want to SHOW them. We want to show them something new about our business everyday. It’s the only way to let our fans know the full breadth and scope of what we do, what we want, who we work with, and where we want to go.
